Great South West Walk - Take up the challenge and do the whole walk – 250km round trip from Portland to Portland – inland one way and via the coast on the way back.Local walks -There are many short walks in and around Nelson.Drive along river Glenelg River guide maps available from Information Centre and Caravan Park Office.

Princess Margaret Rose Cave Approx. 17kms from Nelson and first discovered in 1936, the cave is renowned for its stalactites, stalagmites and other limestone decorations. Guided tours every day except for Christmas Day.

 

Nelson Explorer and Nelson Endeavour do a number of cruises up the Glenelg River, including a trip to the Princess Margaret Rose Caves.

 

Fishing the Glenelg River is ideal for recreational fishers; angle from any number of landings along the river, launch a boat there are several ramps in many selected spots. Surf fishing is also possible along Discovery Bay and Piccaninnie Ponds. Fish to be caught in the River include Mullet, Salmon, Bream and Mulloway.Canoeing on the Glenelg River is possible from Dartmoor to the River Mouth – 75kms.

 

Hire a canoe, paddle boat or boat from Nelson Canoe and Boat Hire and explore the river at your own pace - or bring your own!

 

Swimming, the Glenelg River is safe to swim in. Best area for families with small children – Estuary Beach (River Mouth).

 

Power boating/Water skiing, there are two water skiing zones located on the Glenelg River.

 

Piccaninnie Ponds Conservation Park offers a unique diving or snorkelling experience. Divers must have current membership of the Cave Divers Association and be rated at sinkhole category.

 

Beach- Surf fishing ,walking, and paddling along estuary and Ocean beach.Ocean beach is not reccomended for swimming.
